Kinsey University Bow Technician Course Serves Capacity Crowd in Lancaster, PA

June 8th, 2015

Lancaster, PA —  Kinsey University expanded upon its mission of helping dealers maximize their knowledge of the archery industry through spring and summer continuing education courses.

The first class of the season was sold out Bow Technician Training course, held in Lancaster, PA, from April 28 – 29. Kinsey University enlisted expert Steve VanZile of the George Chapman School of Archery to guide participants through both academic and hands-on training of the skills needed to service bows and turn this service into a revenue-generating business segment. Some of the topics covered included explanation of bow designs and cam systems; cam timing; replacing strings and cables; bow setup and arrow selection; and creating a price structure for service charges. Various bow tuning and adjustment methods also were covered at length.

Participants completing the course gained Bow Technician certification.  This is a boon to both shop owners and customers, allowing for increased confidence in a technician’s knowledge and skill. Mike Gober, who owns Earth Spirits Archery in Warsaw, NY with his wife, Maureen, considered this training essential and sent three staff members to get certified. “We are honored to offer to our existing — and future — customers a fully qualified staff to address their concerns and needs,” he said.

Dave Heicher, from Company Base Camp Outfitters, LLC in Newport, PA also found the class beneficial. “Excellent course with very knowledgeable and helpful instructors, from both Chapman Archery and Kinsey’s staff. … Both the lecture/technical and hands-on components of the course were extremely valuable. Good marketing and pricing tips as well. Keep up the good work!”

Kinsey University also offered an additional class — “Crossbow 101” — in Syracuse, NY, on May 12. Members of the Kinsey’s staff taught participants about the history of the crossbow market and current trends, as well as offered hands-on experience with crossbow setup and maintenance. Representatives from Barnett, Excalibur, Hawke Optics, Parker and TenPoint brought crossbows and accessories for test shooting.

A second Bow Technician session will be held June 13 – 14 in Charlotte, NC. Given interest levels and that the first class was sold out, retailers are urged to register for the upcoming class quickly, as seating is limited.
